Summer isn’t over yet!
August is one of the best months to explore Canada. The days are still warm, festival season is in full swing, and there’s still plenty of time for road trips, beaches, hiking, lake days, and one last summer adventure.
Whether you’re spending your first summer in Canada, studying here, or visiting for a few weeks, here are 7 things to do in Canada this August to make the most of the rest of summer.
1. Catch an August Festival
Festival season isn’t over yet, and some of Canada’s biggest summer events are still happening this month.
In Vancouver, the PNE Fair kicks off on August 22 and runs into September, bringing entertainment, food, attractions, and its Summer Night Concerts to the city. If comedy is more your thing, the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival takes over Stanley Park from August 28–30.
In Montréal, there’s still plenty happening. LASSO Montréal takes place August 15–16, followed by the M.A.D. Festival from August 20–23 and MUTEK from August 25–30.
In Toronto, we’ll be at the Toronto Korean Festival (August 21–23) — come enjoy K-pop, Korean food, culture, and more, and stop by the PhoneBox booth to say hi!
Wherever you are in Canada, check your city’s event calendar before making weekend plans. You might find a concert, night market, food festival, or free outdoor event happening nearby.

2. Take an End-of-Summer Road Trip
August is the perfect excuse to fit in one more weekend road trip.
If you’re in British Columbia, consider Whistler, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan, or a longer trip toward the Canadian Rockies.
From Ontario, you could visit Niagara Falls, explore cottage country, or spend a weekend discovering one of the province’s many lakes and parks.
And if you’re in Montréal, Quebec City can make for a great weekend escape.
Pick a destination, make a playlist, grab some snacks, and enjoy the journey.
3. Have a Canadian Lake Day
If you haven’t experienced a proper Canadian lake day yet, August is your chance.
Go swimming, try kayaking or paddleboarding, plan a picnic with friends, or simply spend an afternoon relaxing by the water.
4. Go Hiking While Summer Is Still Here
One of the best things about summer in Canada is having so much nature to explore.
August is a great time to discover hiking trails, provincial and national parks, waterfalls, mountain viewpoints, and coastal walks.
And you don’t have to be an experienced hiker. Canada has everything from easy scenic walks to challenging mountain trails.
Before heading out, always check the weather and current trail conditions, choose a route that matches your experience level, and bring what you need for the day.

5. Explore Your City Like a Tourist
You don’t need to leave town to make the most of August.
Explore a neighbourhood you’ve never visited. Go to a local market. Rent a bike. Try a new restaurant. Find an outdoor movie. Visit a viewpoint. Spend an afternoon at a park you’ve always walked past.
If you’re an international student or newcomer spending your first summer in Canada, there are probably still plenty of places around your own city waiting to be discovered.
Sometimes the best summer plan is closer than you think.
6. Make the Most of the Last Long Summer Evenings
Not every summer memory needs a road trip or a big festival.
Grab dinner on a patio. Meet friends at the park. Watch the sunset. Find a night market. Go cycling. Have a picnic after work or class.
August is your reminder to stay outside a little longer and enjoy those warm summer evenings while they’re still here.

Summer Isn’t Over Yet
August may be the last full month of summer, but there’s still plenty of time to make a few more memories in Canada.
Catch a festival. Take that road trip. Spend a day at the lake. Explore somewhere new. Or simply enjoy a warm evening outside with friends.
And wherever the rest of your summer takes you, staying connected can make exploring easier — whether you’re checking directions, looking for things to do nearby, or sharing your favourite moments with friends and family.
With PhoneBox Monthly, Prepaid, and Travel Plans, you can choose the option that fits your time in Canada and stay connected wherever your August plans take you.
Make the most of the rest of summer. ☀️
